Fred Glass to Retire From Indiana University

ESPN is reporting that Fred Glass, Indiana athletic director, will retire at the end of the school year. Glass is best known for revamping the basketball program that was significantly damaged after an NCAA scandal. He was also instrumental in rebranding the football program as well as renovating many athletic facilities on campus making the school’s programs more appealing to new recruits.

The basketball program at the school for both men and women are experiencing an upward trend. The women’s team is seeing the highest ranking in the school’s history. The football team is also doing well as they just had their best season in over 20 years. Glass explains that he loved his job, but at 60, is ready to spend more time and attention on his family.

Well known to everyone on campus, Glass motivated the student body to support the football team and was a constant presence behind the scorer’s table during basketball games. The baseball team saw increased success. Men’s soccer, swimming, and track teams, which have all been strongholds in the school, sustained continued luck with excellent reputations.

Glass is leaving on top, in high regard. His legacy will be one of rebuilding athletic programs with integrity, building-up campus facilities through immensely successful fundraising efforts, while also keeping a tight focus on academic excellence.

Fred Glass leaves his professional career with an impressive resume. He is a trained attorney who was the chief of staff for Indiana Governor Evan Bayh for four years from 1989-1993. He served on the Marion County Capital Improvement Board, playing an important role in the building of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Additionally, he was on Indianapolis’ Super Bowl bid committee and was on the organizing committees for the NCAA and Big Ten basketball tournaments.
